What’s a Public Living Room?
Public Living Rooms are welcoming, judgment-free spaces where people can come together in a relaxed setting to “look out for each other,” without any expectation of advice, therapy, counselling, or onward referral.
The Camerados movement was started in 2015, since then more than 460 Public Living Rooms have been created (with almost 300 of these being open regularly for people to get together), they are open to anyone who wishes to call in.
Opening the doors of Aberconwy House
Menter Iaith Conwy is currently working in partnership with the National Trust to open the doors of Tŷ Aberconwy for more public use. Inspired by the Camerados approach, they’ve created a weekly “Sesiwn Siarad / Talking Session” — held every Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 — for learners of Cymraeg/Welsh to practice the language in a supportive and informal space.
Come along to practice your Cymraeg, explore this fascinating old building, and share your ideas for how it might be used in future.
There’ll also be music and birthday cake to mark the occasion!
A Welsh learner Claire Morton of Conwy stated;
“It’s great to get a chance to practice my Cymraeg in such an informal setting — the Public Living Room is so warm and relaxed.”
Caren Jones, also of Conwy, said
“Da iawn, thanks for the opportunity to practice in this fascinating setting.”
Ty Aberconwy is open Thursdays to Saturday 10.00 to 4.00.
The public living room is on the second floor which is accessed via stairs.
